Will mail and packages be delivered on Thanksgiving, Black Friday?

(NEXSTAR) – Before holiday shopping mania fully sets in, most mail carriers are taking a break this week.

The United States Postal Service will not be operating Thursday as the agency observes Thanksgiving, a federal holiday. USPS carriers will not be on their routes, and caller service and P.O. Box service will also not be available.

The only service that will be available from USPS is Priority Mail Express, which is still delivered on Sundays and holidays.

All USPS services will return back to normal on Black Friday, which is not an official holiday.

Private shippers UPS, FedEx and DHL are handling Thanksgiving differently. UPS observes Thanksgiving as a holiday and it will not be doing pickups and deliveries other than its Express Critical service. Everything returns to normal on Friday.

Similarly, FedEx is mostly shut down on Thursday (except for Custom Critical). On Black Friday, FedEx offices will be back open, but FedEx Express will have modified service.

DHL will be closed in observance of the public holiday on Thursday.

Amazon will also not be delivering packages Thursday.
